Kissing A Sexy Woman or Being Peed on By A Toad…

Id Cards No Comments »

…which would you choose. Well last night let’s just say I made the wiser choice and got wet. I went out toad hunting in the first real Monsoon Rains of the season for southern Arizona. It happened like this: Sometime in the late afternoon yesterday I was sitting where I sit now in the hotel business center; I was minding my own business and was downloading some pics from my camera to my thumb drive when a hotel manager stopped by to chat. She told me about a concert thi

ID cards will not be compulsory, says Alan Johnson Alan Johnson, the Home Secretary, has announced the death of compulsory ID cards in a significant Government climbdown over the controversial scheme. By Tom Whitehead, Home Affairs Editor Alan Johnson said ID cards should not have been portrayed as ‘a panacea for terrorism”. He said the cards will now only be issued to Britons on a voluntary basis meaning no one will ever be forced to have one, effectively paving the way for the

ID card scheme seeks new justification

So ID cards are here to stay, but only for foreign nationals. Alan Johnson has just talked complete and utter drivel on the PM programme. Home Secretary Alan Johnson has dropped plans to make ID cards compulsory for pilots and airside workers at Manchester and London City airports. ID cards: a diminished announcement

Id Cards No Comments »

Alan Johnson has finished his review of ID cards and says he is going ahead with them… so it’s ID cards full steam ahead? Not quite. This was originally meant to be a scheme that would end up in compulsory cards . There would be votes in Parliament before we got there, 70-80 per cent voluntary take-up of the cards before the government took the plunge, it could all take 10 years… but “compulsory ID cards for all” was the logical, stated destination for something that was proclaimed as a lin

Doom Resurrection getting DLC, ‘possible’ for other id titles [update]

Id Cards No Comments »

Though he didn’t exactly spell out what it’s going to be or when it’s going to be hitting digital shelves, id Software’s John Carmack told us his newest iPhone game will be getting DLC. He let slip yesterday morning during an interview about recently released Doom Resurrection that the game would be getting DLC “sometime soon” — downloadable content just became an option for iPhone games, with the launch of OS 3.0 . When we pressed him on whether we’d see downloadable anything for the

ID cards ‘will never be compulsory’ for Britons

Id Cards No Comments »

Alan Johnson signalled a major retreat by the Government on identity cards when he ruled out ever making them compulsory for UK citizens. The Home Secretary also abandoned plans for a pilot project at two airports which would have required some staff and pilots to carry the cards. The schemes for new workers wishing to go airside at Manchester airport and London city airport will now only be voluntary. But the Government is to press ahead with creating a national identity register which, f

For instance if you use a suffice such as “& Associates” or “& Co” or anything that denotes something different than the corporation or LLC name, one needs to register a DBA (doing business as). It’s the human stuff, stupid

Nice piece tucked away in Adage Digital which reminds us that however we get excited by the promise of particular technologies, the answer normally lies in some all-too-human stuff that we might otherwise overlook. All too often (NHS database project, ID cards) we look to big tech stuff to solve the problems in front of us, rather than thinking about simple, human-scale answers that might get us much of the way there, quicker and cheaper, too. Technology as ‘magic’ science…? So rather than

Eating My sister has been staying a couple of nights a week this month while she has been working in Melbourne, so we’ve been taking it in turns to cook dinner. I’d forgotten how nice it is to sit on the couch and let someone else cook! Of course, when I really can’t be bothered, I just head to my older sisters – there’s always plenty of food in their house. I dropped in just in time for Tacos last week – yum. I can’t forget my favourite takeway from the local Turkish restaurant – I just call

Get Bad Credit Car Loan Easily

Financing your new car is the most likely option if you’re in the market for another vehicle. I’m sure that you already know that if you have a bad credit record it will get in the way. Still, if you go to the right company, this won’t get in the way of your new vehicle. The key part will be locating a company that specialises in this area. The only hurdle you may have is if there have been problems with bad car credit in the past. It may be more difficult but still possible if you find the ri

On Economic arguments or lack thereof

Id Cards No Comments »

Personally, I don’t think it’s particularly unreasonable for any political party to refuse to put down precise spending markers at the absolute bottom of a recession. There’s an argument for doing so – you could then say “this is what we’ll do if we have to and our order of priorities if we get more money are X, Y and Z” but given that the political reality of making such a statement is that your opponents would quite rightly rip you a new one over the things you throw out, it’s understandabl

Great Wall of Facebook: The Social Network’s Plan to Dominate the Internet — and Keep Google Out

Larry Page should have been in a good mood. It was the fall of 2007, and Google’s cofounder was in the middle of a five-day tour of his company’s European operations in Zurich, London, Oxford, and Dublin. The trip had been fun, a chance to get a ground-floor look at Google’s ever-expanding empire. But this week had been particularly exciting, for reasons that had nothing to do with Europe; Google was planning a major investment in Facebook, the hottest new company in Silicon Valley. Origina
